Business gift project

Learners will have the opportunity to develop new products in groups as part of a business gift project. The process consists of brainstorming, designing and making a prototype, brainstorming, and presenting the idea in a sales pitch. The project culminates in an event where students present their ideas to others. As an axample, here is a river-themed business gift project in which pupils developed river themed products.

The project can be carried out with secondary school pupils or can be a collaborative project involving, for example, primary school pupils.

Duration/extent

The project can be carried out intensively over a few days or be spread over a longer period.

Learning outcomes

Understand the importance of entrepreneurship in society and that it is an opportunity that is part of working life.

Ability (of learner) to articulate his/her competences and identify how they can be used in working life and entrepreneurship.

Ability (of learner) to identify specific features of the local economy and the main sectors, understand the rules and practices of working life, and apply for jobs and operate in working life.

Understand why digital skills and tools are needed in learning, working life and society, and understand that they are part of general work-life skills.

Recognise the different aspects of sustainable development and the importance of a sustainable lifestyle for the environment, society and people.

Identify how the skills and competences acquired at school can be used to build a personal and sustainable future.

What entrepreneurial skills does the tool reinforce?

Identifying opportunities, self-awareness and confidence in own abilities, planning and managing, and working with others.

Implementation tips

The project can be implemented directly for the client, which could be a company or organisation in the local area. In this case, students will also get to know the local working environment, for example through a visit or a presentation.

If there is no sponsor for the project, teachers can choose another topical theme. What kind of gift would the pupils plan to give to international guests of the school?

The project should incorporate elements of the STEAM pedagogy, using digital fabrication tools or crafts at the prototyping stage.
